Ian, briefly introduce you to the readers.

Hi, my name is Ian and i’m a photographer from Brighton, England

Can you remember your first camera and the feelings related to it?

I had a Canon Snappy V when i was 10 and remember being very excited at having my own camera to shoot whatever the hell i wanted!

Who or what made you become a photographer?

I think it all started due to feeling frustrated at not being able to create the video projects i wanted to quickly enough or well enough. Photography for me became a way to channel those frustrations into something creative – and I’m happy to say that it is no longer a compromise but something i enjoy the same if not more.

There are many, but the ones that have always and will always be influences are Harry Gruyaert, Gregory Crewdson, Stephen Shore, William Christenberry and Joel Meyerowitz.

What are the subjects you love to represent, what stories you love to tell?

I love photographing unusual places, as i like how these places feel to me -places where i feel maybe i shouldn’t be. The magic for me is putting people in these places and making sense of the motions these situations give me.  photograph has to speak to me emotionally in some way – as if i’m recalling a feeling that reminds me of something i’ve seen, or felt.

What is your favorite light?

I have many and for different reasons. Early morning light is beautiful – it has a pinkish tone to it on people that makes it very dream like.

Black and white, or colors, or both?

Both.

Any future plans or artistic dreams you can share with us?

I’d love to create something that lives purely in my head – that is based on all the things i like and put them all in one scene – almost, like an all out ode to everything that has ever influenced me.

Ian, what is for you PHOTOGRAPHY?

Experience and personal emotion. Nothing more.
